Welcome!

We are organizing, among the lineup of workshops to be held at NIPS this year, a workshop at the interface between optimal transport and machine learning. You are warmly invited to contribute to the workshop and of course attend later in December this year.

Optimal Transport?

The name optimal transport may be more familiar to computer scientists as the theory underlying the earth mover's distance, to probabilists as that supporting the family of Wasserstein distances and for optimization practitioners as the formalism behind the well known transportation problem. With wide applications now in graphics, statistics, clustering, computer vision, economics and imaging, optimal transport has now reached a tipping point.

Because we believe the ideas of optimal transport can change the way we manipulate datasets and bags-of-features / feature histograms, our aim with this workshop is that of creating a lively forum, and encourage the proposal of new machine learning methodologies that build on that versatile theory.

Important Dates

  • Workshop date: December 13, 2014.
  • Submission deadline for contributed papers: October 23, 2014.

Location

The workshop will be held within the NIPS conference, in the Palais des Congrès de Montréal/Convention and Exhibition Center, Montréal (Quebec, Canada).
